Northwest Gainesville

Northwest Gainesville generally refers to the area north and northwest of UF, centered along NW 43rd Street and Millhopper Road. Housing includes single-family subdivisions from the 1970s through the 2000s, newer construction, apartments, and townhomes. Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park, Hunters Crossing, Santa Fe College, and routes to I-75 are nearby.

Southwest Gainesville and Haile Plantation

Southwest Gainesville follows Archer Road/SR 24 and SW 20th Avenue, southwest of UF and UF Health, with retail concentrated around Butler Plaza. Housing ranges from older homes closer to UF to newer subdivisions. Haile Plantation includes townhomes, single-family homes, trails, and Haile Village Center.

Downtown Gainesville

Downtown is east of UF and contains government offices, the Alachua County Courthouse, the Hippodrome State Theatre, restaurants, and retail. Housing includes historic homes, apartments, condominiums, and newer mixed-use buildings, with connections via University Avenue and 13th Street.

Jonesville

Jonesville is an unincorporated community west of I-75 along Newberry Road, between Gainesville and Newberry. It includes Town of Tioga, Tioga Town Center, and single-family subdivisions from different periods. It has no municipal boundaries and often uses Newberry postal addressing.

Newberry

Newberry is an incorporated city west of Gainesville along SR 26/Newberry Road. The Census Bureau’s July 2025 estimate placed its population at 8,618. Housing includes a historic in-town core and newer-construction subdivisions.

Alachua is an incorporated city north of Gainesville along US 441 near I-75. It includes an established downtown, residential subdivisions, and the San Felasco Tech City employment area. Housing spans older in-town homes and newer development.

Micanopy is an incorporated town south of Gainesville near US 441 and I-75. Its compact historic district includes shops and restaurants, while housing includes older homes and properties on larger lots. Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is nearby.
